The Friends of Waterbury Reservoir is hiring two part-time Aquatic Invasive Species Greeters for the Summer 2026 season. Here is your opportunity to learn about Aquatic Invasive (Nuisance) Species and help protect our natural environment.



This position is grant-funded (the pay is $15-$17.50/hour) and will run from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Your workplace is located at one of three boat launches on the Waterbury Reservoir. There are two (2) positions open. One position is one day a weekend (either Saturday or Sunday, depending on which day is the nicest, weather-wise), at the Waterbury Center Day Use Area. The other is two days a week, both weekend days, Saturday and Sunday, (approximately 16 hours/week) at the Waterbury Dam boat launch. You will also need to attend an Agency of Natural Resources training program this spring – (about 4 to 6 hours, date, and time yet to be determined). The trainings include up-to-date information about the program and professional development techniques. The training is mandatory and paid time.



Some of the topics you will learn about include:

  • Aquatic invasive species biology, threats to Vermont, and the importance of spread prevention.

  • Access area rules and regulations, invasive species laws.

  • Tips on delivering invasive species messages and interacting with the public.

  • Inspecting watercraft and data collection methods.


Boat Access Greeter Duties:

  • Approaching and interacting with boaters.

  • Meeting, greeting, and informing the public.

  • Inspecting watercraft.

  • Identifying and handling suspicious specimens.

  • Collecting and reporting data.

  • Distributing educational material on aquatic invasive species.


Qualifications include:

  • Ability to be assertive while maintaining a congenial attitude.

  • A desire to educate and inform the public.

  • Enthusiasm and appreciation for the natural world.

  • Know how to have fun and enjoy this wonderful resource.

Job Type: Part-time, temporary;
